When Valentine’s Day rolls around, the single population of schools seems to speak negatively of the dreaded day; many students are spending February 14th alone. Brandon Jacobsen (9) agrees that Valentine’s Day is “overrated” and “[an] excuse for some girls to get gifts.”
People should not feel lonely and jealous on this day because you, first off, save money on all the different candies, gifts, and flowers that couples would have to purchase one another. It also saves some guys the time of carefully planning out their special “holiday.”
In fact Valentine’s Day comes from the Catholic’s belief in Saint Valentine. Many people may be making purchases for their special someone but they miss out on the true meaning of the holiday. According to Statistic Brain, America will spend 13.9 Billion dollars on average for Valentines Day.
With all the money you save on Valentines Day, friends could gather to go see a movie, go buy something new to enjoy, and treat some friends to some Dutch Bros. or Starbucks.
Valentine’s Day can also be a negative holiday for many couples around campus. Another interesting fact from Statistic Brain is that 53% of girls would break up with their boyfriend if they did not purchase some sort of gift for them. This also goes to show that Valentine’s Day can ruin a perfectly good relationship and make some girls very demanding.
On the other hand guys can be the same way; men can also get very overwhelmed from preparing for V-Day . Spending money on gifts for your beloved is also not a way to show your true feelings for someone and people should not feel discouraged on this day because there are plenty of other ways to enjoy this day alone.
